E.C. #015 – Three-records tape of ALAMBRE DE PÚAS from Chile. Although this band reaches the standard quality of their current Chilean scene, the hype is entirely justified on this one. The mid-tempo, along with lyrics fueled by the new reality, made this unpretentious punk band a clear, sharp definition of its time and space, even though it’s just two years old. Although the formula might be the same one we can find in many current bands of Latin America -playing beat-driven hardcore punk with frenetic but distorted vocals- they’re one of the few bands I will always go all out for because I often subconsciously find myself humming along to their songs long after I’ve listened to them. The distant noise of a chainsaw, the lyrics content (which forced me to include three inserts instead of one because they worth them), and the nailed art of the singer/guitarist Wati Bakan created a result that doesn’t sound punk; IS punk.

E.C. #015 – Cassette de tres discos de ALAMBRE DE PÚAS (Chile). Aunque esta banda alcanza la calidad estándar de la escena chilena actual, su popularidad está totalmente justificada. El mid-tempo, junto con letras impulsadas por la nueva realidad, hicieron de esta sencilla banda de punk una definición clara y nítida de su tiempo y espacio, a pesar de que solo tiene dos años. Aunque la fórmula puede ser la misma que podemos encontrar en muchas bandas actuales de América Latina, que tocan un hardcore rítmico y simplificado con voces frenéticas pero distorsionadas, son una de las pocas bandas de las cuales siempre estaré atenta, porque a menudo, subconscientemente, me encuentro tarareando sus canciones mucho después de haberlas escuchado. El ruido lejano de una motosierra, el contenido de las letras (que me obligó a incluir tres insertos en lugar de uno porque merecen la pena) y el arte extremo del cantante y guitarrista Wati Bakan crearon un resultado que no suena punk; es el punk.

Comme tant d'autres artistes regroupés au sein du label Grime Stone Records, Mossen invite dans son premier album éponyme à faire une ballade en forêt mais certainement pas dans un esprit de frivolité comique ou de romantisme pastoral. Le raw black metal lugubre de Mossen est très bruitiste et fait l'effet d'une chute dans un buis de ronces. Abysmal Specter, qui assure le chant, ne joue plus le rôle de bouffon comme on a pu souvent l'entendre mais de fantômes errant dans les bois. Un bon début ! Jordan Vauvert

Pour Forest of Grief, son premier album, Old Nick décide de passer aux choses sérieuses : une pochette lugubre en nuances de gris chargée de symboles satanistes dessinée par un vrai graphiste, des thèmes mélancoliques et mortuaires à la pelle, et enfin un raw black metal médiéval. Mais pas de demi mesure chez Old Nick : les synthés ont le droit à leur quart d'heure de gloire. Accordéons, chiptune et effets en tous genres nous entraînent vers un passé ancien mais pas comme on s'y attend. Décalé ! Jordan Vauvert

Old Nick - Flying Ointment

Je ne sais pas exactement comment traduire le titre Flying Ointment. Ma première hypothèse, c'est "Pommade qui donne la faculté de voler" et elle fait sens parce que le synthé a un rôle plus important ici et, malgré quelques phases cauchemardesques, les ambiances sont mystiques et libératrices. Mais, sachant que Old Nick prend un malin plaisir à rendre ce remède inaccessible, caché derrière un raw black metal technique (practitioner arrache tout !), il s'agit peut-être d'une "Pommade volante"...
